The Literacy component's purpose is to allow students at every age group and level to improve their reading comprehension, writing, and vocabulary. It is our goal to assess students' capabilities and help them reach the academic standard for their grade as well as to encourage children to excel beyond their grade level. Providing hands-on activities that engage children in exciting activities will help prevent the learning slide that occurs when children don't participate in educational activities during the summer months.
The Literacy staff shifted learning academic core away from standard test-taking and reading lengthy literature towards increasingly interactive methods using relatable and applicable themes and projects. Reading one-on-one to hands-on projects help the students remain engaged. One favorite project is the t-shirt design and entrepreneurship competition.
